Safari by style

Custom Tanzania Safaris

Start from a blank page: we build a tailor-made Tanzania safari around your dates, your pace and the things you care about most.

A custom safari starts with a blank page. Instead of choosing from a fixed menu, you tell us how long you can travel, when you want to go, who is coming and what you would love to see — and we design the trip around those answers.

That might mean a short three-night break focused on the Ngorongoro Crater, or a three-week journey linking the Serengeti, Ruaha, Zanzibar and a Kilimanjaro climb. It might mean travelling slowly with young children, or packing in the migration, big cats and remote walking areas for a photographer. The shape of the trip is yours.

We are based in Moshi, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, and plan every safari ourselves. There is no call centre and no hard sell: you deal directly with the people who will arrange your trip, and you are free to change anything — lodges, parks, the order of the route, the number of nights — until it feels right.

Custom trips are usually private, with your own 4x4 and guide, though we can also tailor a group-joining departure if budget is the priority. Whatever the style, the price is worked out honestly and shown in full, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Not sure where to begin? The itineraries below are simply starting points. Open the one closest to what you have in mind, tell us what you would change, and we will turn it into something that fits you exactly — with no obligation to book.

Frequently asked questions

How does a custom safari actually work?

You send us your rough dates, group size, budget and interests. From there we reply with a suggested route, the camps or lodges we have in mind and a full, itemised price — no obligation and no hard sell. You tell us what to change, whether that is the parks, the pace, the order of the route or the standard of accommodation, and we keep refining it as many times as you like until it feels exactly right. Only then do you confirm. Because we are based in Moshi and plan every safari ourselves, you deal directly with the team who will arrange your trip. It is a genuinely collaborative process, and most guests enjoy shaping the journey as much as taking it.

Do custom safaris cost more than set packages?

Not necessarily. Because the itinerary is built around your budget, we can propose the right mix of lodges, camps and parks to hit your target rather than forcing you into a fixed package. A custom trip simply gives you control over where the money goes, so you can choose to spend more on the parks that matter most to you and save elsewhere. It is often possible to build a tailor-made itinerary for much the same as a set departure, and occasionally for less, because nothing is wasted on elements you do not want. We price everything honestly and show it in full, so you can see the effect of each choice. Tell us your figure and we will design a trip that fits.

Can I combine a safari with Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar?

Yes, and it is very common. A safari pairs beautifully with a Kilimanjaro trek before or after, or with a few days resting on Zanzibar’s beaches to unwind at the end of the trip. We arrange the mountain trek, the beach stay, the internal flights and every transfer so the whole journey runs as one seamless itinerary with no gaps or loose ends to worry about. We build in sensible rest days between the two, since altitude and early starts take their toll, and we time flights so you are never rushed. Many guests find the contrast between the dusty plains and the warm Indian Ocean is the perfect finish. Just tell us how much time you have and we will stitch it together.

How far ahead should I plan?

For the peak months of July to October and the December holidays, booking six to twelve months ahead gives you the widest choice of lodges and camps, as the best places sell out early. Outside those periods, two to three months is usually plenty of notice, and we can sometimes arrange trips at shorter notice if your dates are flexible. The Great Migration season and the festive period are the two windows where planning early really pays off, especially for specific camps that move with the herds. If your plans are last-minute, do not be put off — tell us your dates and we will see what is available, and we are often able to find something special. Early planning also gives you more time to refine the itinerary calmly.

Can you match a specific budget?

Yes. Tell us the total or per-person figure you have in mind and we will design a trip to fit, suggesting where to spend and where to save. A larger budget might go into more nights in the Serengeti, a private vehicle, or a spectacular tented camp; a modest one might favour simple bush camps, group-joining departures and the green season. We are just as happy building a value trip as a luxury one, and we will never push you beyond what you want to spend. We are a local operator, so there is no middleman inflating the price. Tell us honestly what you can afford and we will show you exactly how much safari that buys.

What if I am not sure what I want?

That is completely normal, and it is exactly what we are here for. Many guests start with only a rough idea — a few dates, a sense of who is travelling and a wish to see the wildlife — and nothing more. Share those details and a few interests, such as big cats, the migration, birding or simply time to relax, and we will suggest a route and a pace that suit them. From there we adjust it together, adding or removing nights and swapping parks until it feels right, with no pressure to commit. You do not need to arrive with a plan; that is our job. The more we understand about how you like to travel, the better we can shape the trip.

Is a custom trip suitable for families?

Very. We plan shorter driving days, family-friendly lodges with connecting rooms or family tents, and flexible meal times, and we can include activities that keep children engaged, from spotting games to cultural visits and gentle walks. A private vehicle makes all of it far easier, since you can stop when the little ones need a break, carry snacks and entertainment, and set your own rhythm rather than following a fixed schedule. We also advise on the best seasons for young children and on sensible health precautions. Families often tell us the shared adventure becomes the highlight of the year. Tell us the ages of your children and what they enjoy, and we will build a trip that keeps everyone happy, from grandparents to toddlers.
