Few honeymoons are as romantic as a safari. You wake to the sound of birds and hippos, share a private dawn game drive, and end the day with a sundowner as the light turns gold across the plains. Africa has a way of making the first days of married life feel both adventurous and very calm.
We plan honeymoon safaris the way we would want them planned for ourselves: privately, with your own guide and vehicle, so the pace is yours alone. No shared departures, no strangers at the next table and no fixed schedule — just the two of you and a wilderness that feels made for the occasion.
Where you stay matters. We favour small, secluded camps and lodges with a sense of occasion — a private veranda facing the plains, a room with a view, an intimate dining tent. Many of these places quietly add thoughtful honeymoon touches, and we will let them know the trip is a celebration.
The northern circuit gives you the classic romance: the Serengeti at sunrise, big cats on the move, and the Ngorongoro Crater, whose rim lodges look down into a natural amphitheatre. A hot-air balloon at dawn is the ultimate romantic flourish, followed by a champagne bush breakfast.
Most honeymooners then fly to Zanzibar for a week of turquoise water and quiet beaches. The contrast is perfect — from dust and drama to barefoot relaxation — and the short flight makes it easy to combine the two in a single, seamless trip.
Tell us what you have in mind, and the surprises you would like, and we will build a honeymoon that feels like yours from the first day to the last.

Frequently asked questions
Is a safari a good honeymoon?
It is one of the most memorable honeymoons you can take, and it suits couples who want adventure and romance in equal measure. You share extraordinary experiences — a private dawn game drive, a sundowner as the plains turn gold — and you have complete privacy, with your own guide and vehicle throughout. There is no set schedule to keep and no strangers to share it with, so the trip moves at your pace. Many couples then finish with a relaxed beach stay on Zanzibar, which balances the dust and drama of the bush with barefoot days by the sea. It is a honeymoon that feels both thrilling and wonderfully calm.
Can we combine the safari with Zanzibar?
Yes — it is our most popular honeymoon shape, and the two fit together beautifully. A short flight links the Serengeti and Zanzibar, so you move from game drives to turquoise water in a couple of hours, without a long journey back through the mainland. You keep the same easy rhythm: several nights of private safari, then a week or so of barefoot relaxation on the coast, with time for diving, spice tours or simply doing very little. We arrange the internal flights, transfers and accommodation as one seamless trip, so you are not stitching things together yourself. If you prefer, we can also add days in Stone Town before the beach.
When is the best time for a honeymoon safari?
June to October offers dry, sunny days and superb wildlife viewing, with animals gathering around water and the light often at its best — a favourite window for honeymoons. January to March is the calving season on the Serengeti plains and a lovely, quieter time for couples, with green landscapes and strong predator action, though occasional short rains pass through. Both seasons work well, and the choice often comes down to whether you prefer classic dry-season conditions or greener, softer scenery with fewer travellers. If your dates are flexible, tell us and we will suggest the months that suit your plans, your budget and the wildlife you most hope to see.
Can you arrange honeymoon extras?
We can request private bush dinners, sundowners at a special spot, room upgrades, a couples’ massage or a hot-air balloon safari, and many of the camps we use quietly add their own thoughtful honeymoon touches. Just tell us what you have in mind — a surprise cake, flowers on arrival, a private veranda dinner under the stars — and we will build it into the plan and confirm exactly what is possible at each camp. Some extras carry an additional cost and some are complimentary, depending on the property, and we will always explain the difference clearly before you commit. The more we know about what would make the trip special, the better we can shape it.
How long should a honeymoon safari be?
Four or five nights of safari is a good base, with a further four to seven nights on the coast, giving you time to slow down rather than rush between parks. Three nights is enough for a taste of the Serengeti if your time is limited, but we would usually add a second park so the journey feels complete. On the safari itself, we like to build in two nights in the same camp where possible — fewer moves, more time to settle, and a chance to linger at the sightings that matter. If you can stretch to ten nights in total, the combination of bush and beach feels generous without ever dragging.
Is a honeymoon safari expensive?
It can range widely depending on the season and the standard of accommodation, so there is usually a version that fits most budgets. Travelling in the green season, or mixing a few top camps with comfortable lodges, brings the cost down considerably without losing the romance. Moving between fewer camps also helps, since internal flights and park fees add up. As a rough guide, private guiding and the quality of the camps are the two things that shape the figure most, so it is worth telling us which of those matters more to you. We will then build an itinerary around your priorities and give you a clear, itemised picture before you decide, with no obligation.
Will we have our own guide?
Yes. Honeymoon safaris are always private, so you keep the same guide and vehicle for the whole safari and set the daily schedule together. That continuity matters: your guide learns how you like to travel, what you hope to see and when you prefer to stop, and the days become more relaxed as a result. There is no group timetable and no waiting on anyone else — you can leave camp at first light, take a long lunch in the shade or stay out late for the golden hour. If you have particular interests, such as photography or birding, tell us and we will match you with a guide who shares them.
