About this safari
The 3-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Safari is the shortest route to Tanzania’s greatest wildlife moments. In just three days you cross the famous Serengeti plains and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater — two of the most celebrated wildlife destinations on the planet.
After a scenic drive across the Ngorongoro highlands and the Maasai steppe, you reach the Serengeti National Park in time for an afternoon game drive. The Seronera Valley, at the park’s heart, is a year-round stronghold of lion, leopard and cheetah, and depending on the season the great wildebeest herds may be close by.
The next morning you have the plains almost to yourself, then journey to the crater rim. Day three is the grand finale: an early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, where elephant, buffalo, hippo, lion and the endangered black rhino share a natural amphitheatre.
It is an intense, beautifully paced introduction to Tanzania — perfect for travellers on a tight schedule who refuse to compromise on wildlife.

Day-by-day plan
Moshi or Arusha to the Serengeti
Depart early from Moshi or Arusha and drive west across the Ngorongoro highlands and the Maasai steppe, passing the rim of the crater and the Olduvai Gorge area. The scenery builds steadily until the horizon opens into the Serengeti National Park.
You enter in the afternoon and head straight for the Seronera Valley. The long golden light is prime predator time — watch for lion on the kopjes, leopard in the riverine trees and cheetah scanning the grass for gazelle. Dinner and a night under a million stars follow in a central Serengeti tented camp.
Full day in the Serengeti, then to Ngorongoro
Rise for a dawn game drive, when the plains are coolest and the predators most active. Depending on the season and the movement of the herds, your guide may take you towards the wildebeest and zebra — following the Great Migration through the western corridor, the centre, or the far north.
After lunch you leave the Serengeti and climb back onto the highlands, arriving at a lodge on the Ngorongoro rim in the late afternoon. The views down into the caldera from your room are a highlight in themselves.
Ngorongoro Crater and return
An early start and a steep descent put you on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater as the animals wake. For several hours you roam this self-contained Eden: grassland, Lerai Forest, swamps and the soda lake of Lake Magadi, each holding different species.
Lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, zebra, wildebeest, flamingo and jackal are all common, and you will scan carefully for the crater’s famous black rhino. After a picnic lunch you climb back to the rim and drive to Arusha or Moshi, arriving by evening.

Route & logistics
The route runs west from Arusha or Moshi, across the Ngorongoro highlands into the central Serengeti, then back to the crater rim for the final descent before returning to town. The longest drive is the transfer into the Serengeti on day one.
All travel is in a private, safari-equipped 4x4. On request, a light aircraft flight can replace the road transfer into the Serengeti at extra cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is three days enough to enjoy the Serengeti?
Three days gives you a full afternoon and a full morning in the Serengeti plus a complete crater descent. It is a fast but satisfying itinerary, and many guests later return for a longer stay.
Is this a private safari?
Yes. You travel privately with your own guide and 4x4, so the pace is set by you.
Where do we stay?
One night in a central Serengeti tented camp and one night at a lodge on the Ngorongoro rim, chosen to match your budget.
Will I see the Great Migration?
It depends on the season. From December to March the herds are on the southern plains; from July to October they move north. Your guide will aim for wherever the herds are.
What about the crater altitude?
The crater rim sits around 2,300 metres, so nights are cool. Bring a warm layer; the crater floor itself is pleasant and warmer.
Can I extend this safari?
Certainly — add Tarangire, Lake Manyara, a Zanzibar beach stay or a Kilimanjaro climb. We will build the extension into your quote.
