Our Community

Responsible travel is how a local company stays welcome in the places it depends on. Here is how we look after our crew, our communities and the wild places we travel through.

  • Porter welfare
  • Education & families
  • Conservation
Why it matters

Travel that gives back

Tanzania’s mountains and parks are our home, and the people who work on them — guides, cooks, porters, drivers and the families behind them — are our neighbours. For us, responsible travel means making sure the benefits of your trip stay here.

We are a small, locally owned company, so we feel every decision directly. Fair pay, safe working conditions, honest advice and low-impact travel are not add-ons; they are simply how we operate.

  • Local crew hired, trained and paid fairly on every trip
  • Porter welfare: proper wages, food, shelter and insurance
  • Support for local families, schools and conservation
  • Low-impact, leave-no-trace travel in the parks and on the mountain

How we give back

Four things we take seriously

Every trip we run supports the people and places that make it possible.

Porter welfare

Porters are the backbone of every Kilimanjaro climb. We pay fair wages, provide proper equipment, food and shelter, and keep loads safe and legal.

Education & families

We support local schools and families around Moshi, so the next generation benefits from the visitors who come to climb and safari.

Conservation

From anti-poaching partnerships to habitat protection, we back the people working to keep Tanzania’s wildlife and wild places safe.

Local employment

Our guides, cooks, porters and drivers are hired locally and paid fairly, so tourism creates lasting livelihoods in our own community.

Conservation

Protecting what makes Tanzania special

Tanzania’s wildlife and wilderness draw travellers from all over the world — and looking after them is everyone’s job. We work with local conservation partners, follow park rules strictly and travel in a way that leaves the smallest possible footprint.

  • Respect wildlife: no off-road driving, sensible distances, quiet viewing
  • Leave-no-trace camping, with waste carried off the mountain
  • Support for anti-poaching and habitat programmes
  • Filtered water and reusable bottles to cut single-use plastic
Where your trip makes a difference

Community & conservation projects

From the slopes of Kilimanjaro to the Serengeti plains and the Zanzibar coast, your trip supports the places and people it touches.

Moshi & Kilimanjaro communities

Your climb begins in Moshi, where our crew lives. Local hiring, fair wages and support for families keep the benefit of tourism right here at home.

Schools & young people

We help local schools with supplies and support, opening doors for young Tanzanians who want to build a career in guiding and hospitality.

Wildlife & habitats

We back the people and programmes protecting the animals and landscapes your trip depends on — from the Serengeti plains to the reefs of Zanzibar.

Our promise

Our commitments to you and to Tanzania

Six principles that guide how we run every trip — and how we treat the people and places behind it.

Fair pay, safe conditions

Every crew member is paid fairly, insured and properly equipped — the starting point of responsible travel, not an afterthought.

Honest advice

We tell you the truth about seasons, routes and what a trip really costs, so you can choose what is right for you.

Small footprint

Leave-no-trace camping, waste carried off the mountain and filtered water to cut single-use plastic on every trek.

Respectful wildlife viewing

We keep a sensible distance, never drive off-road and follow every park rule — for the animals’ sake and yours.

Support that lasts

We build long-term relationships with the communities and conservation partners we work with, not one-off transactions.

Money that stays local

Booking a local operator keeps more of what you spend with the guides, cooks, porters and communities who make your trip happen.

Good to know

Questions about responsible travel

What does responsible travel mean for Topi Adventure?

It means making sure the benefits of your trip stay in Tanzania. We hire and pay our crew fairly, travel with a light footprint in the parks and on the mountain, respect wildlife, and support the local communities and conservation projects our trips depend on.

How do you look after your porters and guides?

Porter welfare is a priority. Our porters are paid fair wages, given proper food, shelter and equipment, insured for the climb, and never asked to carry more than the legal weight limit. Our guides are licensed, trained and supported throughout the season.

Do you support any conservation projects?

Yes. We work with and support local conservation efforts — from anti-poaching and habitat protection around the northern parks to wildlife and marine conservation elsewhere in Tanzania. We are happy to explain exactly where support goes when you enquire.

How can I travel more responsibly on safari or Kilimanjaro?

Simple choices add up: travel with a local operator, use filtered water and reusable bottles instead of single-use plastic, follow your guide’s advice around wildlife, keep to the trails, and treat the crew who look after you with respect. We build these habits into every itinerary.

Can I visit or support a local project during my trip?

Often, yes. Depending on your itinerary and timing we can arrange a visit to a local school or community project, or point you toward a cause you would like to support. Just mention it when you plan your trip and we will see what fits.

Is Topi Adventure a local company?

Yes. Topi Adventure is locally owned and operated from Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, and is associated with Wild Boar Safaris Limited. Living here is what allows us to give back here.
