Pick-up in Moshi
We collect you from your hotel and drive up into the green Kilimanjaro foothills to a working family farm.
Follow the bean from bush to cup on a working Kilimanjaro coffee farm, then roast and taste your own coffee.
The fertile slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro produce some of Africa’s finest Arabica coffee, grown on small family farms shaded by banana and avocado trees. This hands-on tour takes you onto a working plantation to see how the famous beans are grown, harvested and processed.
You’ll pick ripe cherries, watch them pulped, dried and hulled, then roast and grind your own batch the traditional way before brewing a fresh cup to taste. It is a genuinely interactive, eye-opening morning that supports local farming families.
The tour is private and runs at an easy pace, so there’s plenty of time for questions and photos. Along the way you’ll also discover how the farms are intercropped with bananas and avocados to shade the coffee, and you’ll go home with a bag of the beans you roasted yourself — a small but delicious souvenir of the Kilimanjaro foothills.
Stroll through rows of Arabica bushes with a farmer who explains the growing cycle and challenges of mountain farming.
Learn to select only the ripe red cherries — the first step in making great coffee.
Try your hand at roasting beans over an open fire with a wooden mortar and pestle, just like generations before.
Brew and savour a cup of the coffee you just made, with views over banana groves and the Kilimanjaro foothills.
