Gorilla Tracking SAFARI IN Rwanda

Rwanda is a tiny country in the mountains of east central Africa just south of the equator. It borders Tanzania on the East, Uganda on the north, Zaire and Lake Kivu on the West and Burundi on the South. Rwanda’s land area of 26, 340 sq kms (10, 290 sq miles) is only about the size of some of East Africa’s larger national parks, but with over six million people it has the highest population density on the African continent. Rwanda Safari is common destination for Gorilla Tracking.

Rwanda’s best known attraction is the gorilla tracking in the famous Parc National des Volcans and mountain Gorillas also there is a variety of wildlife at Akagera National Park. MOUNT GORILLA In the make-believe world of Hollywood the gorilla has been invested with all the aggression of homo sapiens to create a parody which has no relation to the original, gentle creature whose form the takes. Almost entirely vegetarians, mountain gorillas ( gorilla gorilla beringei) eat over 100 different plants (and some insect).

They live in stable groups which vary in size between two and 30 individuals and each group dominated by a senior male, normally more than 15 years old (ages of up to 35 years are known in captivity but many workers think gorillas may live even longer). Such males stand about 1.75 metres (5 feet 9 inches) tall, weight arround 180 kilos and are the undisputed leaders of their grous. Gorilla babies are born after a gestation period of nine months-give or take three weeks depending on the individual-and suckle until the age of 18 months, though they begin eating vegetation at about 10 weeks. Once she had reached the age of 8 is sexually mature, a female will have a baby roughly every four years, but 30 percent will be lost through infant mortality.

Gorilla communicate via a variety of gruns, screams and roars; they also beat their chests with their hands, producing an intimidating slapping sound which travels a long way in the forest. To go gorilla tracking in the Parc National Des Volcans and mountain Gorilla is very interesting, here you will have an opportunity to even play with them and other attractions.

AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK; This is Rwanda’s largest national park with an area of 2, 500 sq kms (1,000 squire miles). It is undulating, even hilly, country with a mixture of bush and grassland savanna studded by an extensive chain of lakes that drain into Akagera River, which forms the parks eastern boundary, before eventualy flowing into lake Victoria and becoming one of the source of the Nile river.

In Akagera birds are the main strength and its wondeful place for ornithologist. More than 250 species can be seen, alive with cormorants, darters herons, storks and other water birds, bennett’s woodpecker, the golden backed weaver, the short-tailed pipit, souza’s shrike and the violet-crested turaco can all be seen in the Park. Other common animals species found freequently in the park are impala, plenty of topi, waterbuck, cape bufallo, small number of elephant, lion, leopard, serval cat, African hunting dogs, hyaena and jackals.
